INTELLIGENCE BEFORE ATTENDANCE
Bunker Risk Assessment
A structured review of the vessel, voyage and available information to determine whether specialist bunker attendance is justified.
Every bunker survey begins before the surveyor boards the vessel. A proper risk assessment helps identify whether the available information indicates a need for specialist attendance.
IMI combines the experience of former Greek Masters and Chief Engineers with a unique database of more than 4,500 surveyed vessels.
The available vessel information, consumption performance, sister-vessel data, tank arrangements and previous survey findings are reviewed before a practical recommendation is made.
THE SURVEY STARTS BEFORE WE BOARD
Better intelligence before attendance
A bunker risk assessment is intended to give the client a clearer picture of the vessel before deciding how the attendance should be arranged.
We consider the vessel’s operational profile, reported speed and consumption, previous experience, available charter-party data and any information that may indicate an unusual bunker risk.
The result is a practical assessment of whether the circumstances justify a routine survey, a targeted attendance or a more detailed bunker investigation.
Vessel and Voyage Review
Assessment of the vessel’s type, age, machinery, trading pattern, voyage, expected consumption and the operational circumstances surrounding the appointment.
Performance Comparison
Comparison of available speed and consumption information with charter-party data, sister vessels and other vessels of similar design, size and machinery.
Practical Recommendation
Based on the available information and our experience, we advise whether specialist bunker attendance is justified and what type of survey or investigation would be most appropriate.

A TARGETED DECISION
Choosing the appropriate level of attendance
Not every vessel requires the same type of attendance. In some cases, the available information may indicate a normal operational profile. In others, the data may justify a more targeted inspection or a specialist investigation.
Our role is to help the client make that decision before committing resources, while ensuring that any warning signs are properly considered.
OUR APPROACH
From information to recommendation
Review
We examine the vessel particulars, voyage, performance information and any available previous experience.
Focus: Establish the vessel’s operational profile
Compare
The information is compared with our database, sister vessels and relevant vessels of similar design and machinery.
Focus: Identify unusual patterns or warning signs
Advise
We provide a practical recommendation regarding the need and appropriate scope of specialist attendance.
Focus: Support an informed commercial decision
Worldwide support. Risk assessments can be prepared in advance of attendance, regardless of the vessel’s intended port or trading area.
VESSEL RISK REVIEW
Let us review the vessel before attendance
Send us the vessel’s details, voyage information and any available performance data, and our team will advise on the appropriate next step.
