On-Hire, Off-Hire and Intermediate Bunker Surveys establish and document the vessel’s actual bunker quantities at delivery, redelivery or during the charter period.
Our surveys are carried out by highly experienced Greek former Chief Engineers and Masters, combining practical sea-going knowledge with specialised bunker investigation experience.
Before attendance, we review the available vessel information, consumption performance, tank arrangements and relevant historical data, allowing the surveyor to board with a clear and targeted inspection plan.

Specialist verification of the vessel’s actual bunkers
These surveys are performed at commercially important stages of a charter. Every quantity is independently measured, calculated and checked against the vessel’s physical arrangements and available documentation.
Where unusual measurements, discrepancies or inconsistencies are identified, our surveyors investigate further to determine whether the reported figures accurately represent the quantities physically remaining on board.
Supported by our database of more than 4,500 surveyed vessels, specialised procedures and purpose-built investigative tools, IMI is prepared to extend the inspection whenever deeper verification is required.
On-Hire Bunker Surveys
Independent determination of the bunker quantities remaining on board when a vessel enters a new charter. The survey establishes the opening figures against which subsequent consumption and final redelivery quantities may be assessed.
Off-Hire Bunker Surveys
Accurate determination and documentation of bunker quantities at redelivery, with particular attention to discrepancies, unusual tank conditions and indications that the declared figures may not reflect the actual quantities on board.
Intermediate Bunker Surveys
Specialist verification during the charter period whenever reported consumption, vessel performance, bunker balances or other circumstances require an independent assessment. The findings can identify discrepancies before they develop into greater commercial exposure.
